Pete Campbell

Managing Partner

  • As Managing Principal of Canvass, Pete oversees acquisitions, dispositions, and asset management. Pete leverages his institutional private equity real estate experience to identify and execute Canvass’ investment strategy.

    Formerly a Vice President with Westport Capital Partners, Pete was responsible for a portfolio of assets involving distressed debt and opportunistic real estate across a series of private equity and hedge fund vehicles. Investments included: office, retail, industrial, a self-storage investment platform and securities related to real estate.

    Prior to his role at Westport Capital, he was a real estate asset manager for Mesa West Capital where he was the core member of a team that managed an $830 Million commercial real estate debt portfolio; his responsibilities included loan workouts, restructurings and management of a $630 Million CDO.

    Pete started his post-undergraduate career as a financial analyst within the investment management division of Goldman Sachs.

Peter Cai

Managing Partner

  • Peter is co-portfolio manager and is responsible for investor relations and property management. Peter has a diversified skill set developed within debt capital markets and private equity, with focus on mortgages, loans, real estate and securitized debt.

    Peter worked at Lone Star Funds in private equity, where he was involved in the acquisitions and workouts of some of the industry’s largest and most significant distressed mortgage loan and real estate portfolios.

    Before joining Lone Star, Peter worked in capital markets at BlackRock, Wells Fargo, and Merrill Lynch, where he performed structuring for acquisition finance, loan syndication and securitization. Peter has structured financing and investment transactions totaling over US$20 billion.

    Peter is a graduate of Cornell University in Applied Economics and Management.

John Goodale

Vice President

John is responsible for asset management, acquisitions, and property management. John leverages his real-world experience in private equity real estate, with a focus in the self-storage sector to achieve Canvass’ investment goals.

John began his career in private equity as an intern with Canvass in 2017 and has developed into a lead asset manager for the SafeNest Storage platform where he helps execute the business plan across value-add and opportunistic storage real estate. Prior to joining Canvass, John was the Director of Bands at Quail Hollow Middle School in Charlotte, NC.

John earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

Dan Heath

Vice President of Development

Dan is responsible for the planning and execution of all project types, ranging from site development, shell construction, and interior renovations. He oversees all steps of the construction, including site review, organization and logistics, reporting, design and construction management, change orders, submittal process, project cost management, quality assurance, and billing administration for our clients. He has over fifteen (15) years experience in
construction management and owner representation.

Dan has been involved with many institutional  quality development projects, including Office and Industrial. Dan was on the development team that built the largest office buildings in Mecklenburg County during 2011-2012: the Woodward Building and Gragg Building. He was the Project Manager on a 250,000 sqft build to suit project for SPX Corporation. He received full entitlement on two Industrial developments totaling over 800,000sqft.

Dan earned a BS in Plant Science with a concentration in Landscape Design from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Daniel Renckens

Senior Development Manager

As a Development Manager, Daniel is responsible for overseeing all ground-up and redevelopment projects as well as support on acquisitions, financial modeling, and due diligence. Daniel is a registered Professional Engineer in North and South Carolina.

Prior to joining Canvass Capital, Daniel rose to a Project Manager role at Bohler Engineering where he managed Industrial, Residential, Office, Mixed-Use and Commercial land development projects across the Southeast, with total project value exceeding $500M.

Daniel earned a BS in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University.

Veronica Roberts

Transaction Coordinator

Veronica is responsible for supporting the SafeNest Storage team and coordinating transactions. Veronica facilitates pre-closing due diligence items for all SafeNest Storage acquisitions.

Prior to joining Canvass Capital, Veronica spent six years with the Neal Richard Group in Dallas, TX, as an Office Manager and Executive Assistant supporting the C-suite executives. She previously held a position as Marketing Coordinator at MAPP Construction prior to her time at Neal Richards.

Veronica earned a degree from Tarrant County College in Arlington, TX.

Brian Xu

Senior Associate, Investments & Technology

Brian is responsible for acquisitions, asset management, and technology.

Prior to joining Canvass Capital, Brian worked at General Electric in a variety of Product & Operations roles. He oversaw development of internal tools and closed multi-million dollar software & services transactions across a variety of industries.

Brian earned a BS in Operations Research from Cornell University and an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Max Gupton

Controller

Max is responsible for accounting and investor reporting. Max is a registered Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina.

Max has 8 years of experience with accounting/auditing. Max began his career at a national CPA firm specializing in accounting, auditing, and reporting for multifamily real estate development and property management companies. Prior to joining Canvass Capital, Max was a Lead Audit Manager at a large financial institution, where he managed audits of Corporate and Investment Banking lines of business, including Commercial Real Estate.

Max earned a Bachelor's and Master's in Accounting and MBA from Appalachian State University.
